The History of Craps

The history of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game called Hazard, which goes back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Early 1800's. Hazard is believed to be a byproduct of Azzahr, which means 'the die' a game played by Arabs.

The game developed as it traveled from the Arab countries to Europe and then to the UK. By the early eighteenth century, formal rules for Hazard had been developed. France started playing the English variation of Hazard and is believed to have been imported to America by early French colonizers. In the mid-18th century, when the English defeated the French in British North America, the French colonists moved to Louisiana. Dice were played on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a simplified 'US' style of Craps was created. The game headed west and is a favoured game that is played all over the U.S. and all over the planet.

The name 'Craps' is theorized to be a French expression of the word crabs, which alludes to a pair of ones. There are 2 basic forms of Craps that are enjoyed-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, accurately named seeing as it is wagered on the streets is where a hurler establishes a point and then tries to acquire that point. The betting is made either with or against the tosser and a player must cover the wager for the game to go ahead.

In casino Craps, which is the accepted game, competed in in betting houses, the betting house funds the casino game. The participants gamble against the casino-the house covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps once was a quite well-loved casino game but in the past twenty years had split itself and different games, such as poker and chemin de fer became even more well-known.
