Discover How to Play Craps - Tips and Tactics: Casino Chips or Casino Cheques?

Casino personnel usually allude to chips as "cheques," being of French background. Technically, there's a difference amidst a chip and a cheque. A cheque is a chip with a value imprinted on it and is constantly worth the value of the printed number. Chips, although, don't have denominations written on them and any colour can be valued at any cash amount as defined by the dealer. e.g., in a poker tournament, the croupier may define white chips as 1 dollar and blue chips as ten dollars; while, in a roulette game, the croupier may value white chips as 25 cents and blue chips as 2 dollars. An additional example, the cheap red, white, and blue plastic chips you can get at Wal-Mart for your weekly poker game are referred to as "chips" seeing as they don't have denominations printed on them.

When you put your $$$$ down on the table and hear the dealer say, "Cheque change only," she's just informing the box man that a new player wants to change money for chips (cheques), and that the $$$$$ on the craps table is not part of the action. $$$$$$ plays in almost all casinos, so if you place a five dollar bill on the Pass Line just prior to the tosser tossing the dice and the croupier does not exchange your $$$$$ for cheques, your $$$$$ is "part of the action." When the dealer states, "Cheque change only," the boxman knows that your money isn't in play.

In reality, in live craps games, we play with cheques, not chips. Occasionally, a player will walk up to the the table, put down a one hundred dollar cheque, and say to the dealer, "Cheque change." It is fun to pretend to be a beginner and ask the dealer, "Hey, I'm new to Craps, what's a cheque?" Frequently, their comical answers will entertain you.
